Opinion by Dr Himanshu Pathak (hyderabad, india)Thursday, October 16, 2025Inter Press Service HYDERABAD, India, October 16 (IPS) – When crops fail, people move not by choice, but by necessity. As families are displaced by droughts and failed harvests, the pressures do not always stop at national boundaries. In short, hunger has become one of the most powerful forces shaping our century. From the Sahel, the vast semi-arid belt stretching across Africa from Senegal to Sudan and the Horn of Africa to South Asia’s dry zones and Southeast Asia’s coastal farmlands, climate shocks are undermining food production and disrupting communities across the…

President Donald Trump is proposing a cut to anti-terrorism funds being used to protect regions of the country that are among the biggest targets of international terrorism, including Washington, D.C. The Homeland Security Grants program was created after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks to help states in the fight against terrorism. It is these funds that Trump is targeting. Reuters reported on Thursday that 12 states led by Democratic officials are suing to block the cuts. Notices sent out by the Federal Emergency Management Agency indicate that the biggest cuts are coming for D.C. (70%), Illinois (69%), California (31%), and…
Your truly is not keen about having to think as much about stock market price levels as seems warranted of late. It’s pretty obvious AI plays are in a monster bubble, but that does not mean they won’t go even higher before reality drags them back to earth. As we’ve said, historically a stock market rout, unless fueled by lots of debt as in the Great Crash, does not generate a crisis but does damage the economy though investors pulling way back on spending and capital expenditures. That loss of demand is recessionary and can produce deflation and zombification. So…
Despite talk of moderation, the network has continued to broadcast a distortion of reality.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday appeared ready to side with police officers in Case v. Montana, a Montana man’s challenge to a 2021 incident that left him with a gunshot wound to the abdomen after police entered his home. The police officers say that they only went into the man’s home to help him, not because they believed that he was committing a crime. The question before the justices was how certain police officers must be that there is an emergency before, as in this case, going into a house without a warrant. After approximately 75 minutes of debate, the…
Francesco Vitali will be the first to admit that when his co-founder Chris Siametis first pitched him on Rent a Cyber Friend, he didn’t quite get the idea. “Who’s going to pay somebody to speak with somebody?” Vitali told TechCrunch. “But Chris was insistent. Chris is a millennial, and I’m Gen X, so it wasn’t easy for me to understand his vision.” Vitali had worked with Siametis for about two decades together; they ran 48FILM, an international short film festival (Vitali is also a film producer). So, he took a leap of faith to trust his collaborator on the idea…
(NEXSTAR) – As La Niña takes hold over the U.S., national forecasters have released updated predictions for how the phenomenon will affect our weather over the next three months. The Climate Prediction Center, which is part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), released seasonal outlooks on Thursday for November 2025 through January 2026. The temperature and precipitation predictions for the holiday season and start of winter look pretty consistent with a typical La Niña winter. First off, many states – especially those in the South and Southwest – are favored to see warmer-than-average over the next three months. That…
The Trump administration said it found money to continue a food program for low-income families amid the government shutdown, but a Democratic lawmaker countered that it’s the president who ultimately wants to cut the Women, Infants and Children program. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt wrote Oct. 7 on X that Democrats are “so cruel in their continual votes to shut down the government that they forced the WIC program for the most vulnerable women and children to run out this week.” Leavitt said the White House will transfer tariff revenue to cover WIC during the shutdown. U.S. Rep. James…
FBI special agents are still being paid despite the ongoing government shutdown, President Donald Trump and FBI Director Kash Patel said during an Oval Office press conference Wednesday. “We got the people that we want paid — paid,” Trump said. “And we want the FBI paid and we want the military paid.”The Defense Department on Wednesday repurposed, possibly unlawfully, approximately $8 billion in unobligated research and development funding for service member pay. Likewise, the Homeland Security Department on Tuesday said that it would use money from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act to ensure members of the Coast Guard don’t miss…
